The Palma City Council will soon approve the rules for the Ciutat de Palma 2026 awards, with 12 categories and 132,000 euros in prizes. They will be presented on January 20, the feast day of Sant Sebastià.
The Palma City Council will bring the approval of the rules for the Ciutat de Palma awards for 2026 to an upcoming Government Board meeting. The call maintains the same budget as the previous edition: 132,000 euros distributed among a total of 12 categories.
The awards, which will be presented on January 20 coinciding with the feast of Sant Sebastià, the patron saint of the city, aim to stimulate the creation and dissemination of new proposals in fields as diverse as literature, journalism, gastronomy, music, and visual arts.
The 12 categories of the call
The list of awards includes traditional literary prizes and adds more recent disciplines. These are the planned categories:
Llorenç Villalonga Prize for novel in Catalan; Camilo José Cela Prize for novel in Spanish; Joan Alcover Prize for poetry in Catalan; Rubén Darío Prize for poetry in Spanish; Antoni Gelabert Prize for visual arts; Ciutat de Palma Prize for comics; Bonet de Sant Pere Prize for music; Margaluz Prize for performing arts; Maria Forteza Prize for audiovisuals (with two categories: documentary and short film); Montserrat Casas Prize for research; Miquel dels Sants Oliver Prize for journalism; and Caty Juan de Corral Prize for gastronomy.
The financial allocation is the same as that provided in the previous call, confirming the council's commitment to maintaining the level of these awards, considered one of the main cultural showcases of the city.
Once the rules are approved in the Government Board, the submission period for works will open, which usually lasts until the end of the year. Interested parties should keep an eye on the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands and the municipal website to learn about the specific requirements for each category.
