The Brazilian winger Diego Nunes, 31, returns to Illes Balears Palma Futsal after four seasons at Benfica. The player has signed for four campaigns and becomes the club's first signing for the upcoming season.

The Brazilian winger Diego Nunes De Souza Costa (Guarulhos, 1994) is back in the Illes Balears Palma Futsal shirt four years after leaving for SL Benfica. The 31-year-old has signed a four-season contract, just after finishing his time at the Portuguese champions, where he accumulated seven titles.

Nunes arrives at Son Moix as the first reinforcement for the Balearic team for the upcoming campaign. His return strengthens a squad that remains from previous years and aims to make a leap in quality in both domestic and European competitions.

A return home with history

The Brazilian previously wore the Palma Futsal shirt for four and a half seasons, since his arrival in January 2018 from Chonburi Bluewave in Thailand. During his previous spell on the island, Nunes was a key player in the team that reached the first league final in its history in the 2021/22 season and achieved the first qualification for the UEFA Futsal Champions League.

That same season, he was nominated for Best Player of the LNFS, a recognition of his performance on the pitch. In his previous career, he also played for clubs in Thailand and Qatar, where he was with Antonio Vadillo, the current coach of the Balearic team.

Trophies and numbers in Portugal

At SL Benfica, Nunes maintained a prominent role and expanded his collective trophy cabinet. During his four years in Lisbon, he won two Leagues, two Taça de Portugal, two Taça da Liga, and one Supercup. In 2023, he was named MVP of the Taça de Portugal.

In the 2025/26 season, his last in Portugal, he played 34 matches across the League, Taça da Liga, Taça de Portugal, Supercup, and UEFA Futsal Champions League, with a record of 18 goals and 21 assists. In the top continental competition, he provided nine assists in seven matches.

What he brings to the Balearic capital team

With his return to Son Moix, where he will reclaim the number 17 shirt, Illes Balears Palma Futsal adds a player with elite experience and knowledge of the club. For the Palma fans, Nunes is a familiar face who already knows what it means to shine on the court of the Palau Municipal d'Esports de Son Moix.

His versatility as a winger and his ability to generate offensive play will be an added value for coach Antonio Vadillo. The club hopes that his arrival will help consolidate the team in the upper part of the table and compete for titles.

The first match of the season is scheduled for late September, although the official calendar has yet to be published. In the meantime, fans can start warming up with the return of a player who was once one of the most beloved by the crowd.
