The aerial images included in the investigation by the National Police detail the sequence of the serious disturbances recorded at the end of the demonstration held in Palma. The recordings show how more than 3,000 people managed to surround a dozen officers from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP) in the Ses Voltes area, ultimately forcing them to leave the location amidst shoves, kicks, and insults due to the intense pressure exerted by numerous attendees.
According to the documentation analysed by investigators, the police maintained a orderly retreat at all times when remaining in their initial position became impossible due to the increasing concentration of people. The situation developed in an atmosphere of maximum tension, although the most serious incidents did not begin until minutes later, when the officers reached Avenida Antoni Maura.
It was then that, according to the National Police's proceedings, a large group of individuals with a violent attitude specifically approached the officers to confront them. The investigation claims that several hundred violent individuals, some of them hooded, were responsible for the disturbances by continuously throwing stones, cobblestones, glass bottles, and other blunt objects at the police officers.
The images included in the investigation show scenes of great violence. Among the most striking is that of a woman repeatedly hitting several police officers with a flag, before subsequently fleeing the scene.
Other sequences reflect the actions of hooded individuals throwing glass bottles, stones, and cobblestones at the police line, while other participants constantly shouted and insulted the officers. The recordings also reveal coordinated attacks from different points, a circumstance that, according to investigators, complicated police action and increased the risk for both the officers and the other attendees remaining in the vicinity.
The rain of objects forced the officers to take extreme protective measures while trying to contain the situation and prevent the disturbances from spreading throughout central Palma. The main hypothesis of the National Police suggests that the disturbances were led by an organised group that, allegedly, had not even participated in the ordinary development of the demonstration.
According to the investigations, these individuals only joined in the final stretch of the mobilisation with the aim of provoking confrontations with the Security Forces. Investigators believe that the incidents were not spontaneous, but rather responded to a previously planned action.
The proceedings assert that the objective was to disrupt the demonstration, create a scenario of violence, and overwhelm the police deployment in a protest that, until that moment, had developed in a mostly peaceful manner. The reconstruction of the events carried out by the officers clearly distinguishes the behaviour of the vast majority of demonstrators, who exercised their right to protest without causing incidents, from the organised group of violent individuals attributed with the preparation and execution of the disturbances.
According to the investigation, the actions of this group completely altered the course of the day and led to high-intensity confrontations against the police. The aerial images and recordings included in the report will be key to identifying those responsible for the disturbances, whose faces were captured in numerous sequences.
