The mayor of Palma presented the 48th Trofeu Ciutat de Palma on Monday, which will see RCD Mallorca face Paris Saint-Germain on August 5 at Son Moix.
RCD Mallorca will take on reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday, August 5, at 21:00 at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, in the 48th edition of the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma, which this year is named 150 Aniversari Estrella Damm.
The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, presented the tournament on Monday in the City Council's Plenary Hall, accompanied by the first deputy mayor and sports councillor, Javier Bonet; the general director of sports, David Salom; the CEO of RCD Mallorca, Alfonso Díaz; player Arnau Tenas; and Estrella Damm representative, Pedro De Juan.
Martínez Llabrés described the trophy as "one of the most emblematic sporting events in our city" and emphasised that, beyond being a prelude to the season, "it represents a true tradition for Palma and for all Mallorca fans."
The match will be Mallorca's first game at Son Moix in the 2026/27 season and one of the final tests before the official competition begins. The red-and-black team, currently in the Second Division, arrives with a new project led by coach Luis García, whom the mayor welcomed, recalling that "he knows Mallorca well, having played here as a footballer wearing the red-and-black shirt."
Institutional Support for the Club
The mayor expressed his support for the team and congratulated the club on their pre-season work, highlighting "the enthusiasm, commitment, and ambition" with which they approach this new phase. He also greeted the new signings and thanked the fans for their role, which he considered "a fundamental part of this club."
In his speech, Martínez Llabrés reaffirmed the City Council's commitment to sports as "a fundamental pillar and a key tool for building the Palma of the future" and announced that efforts will continue to improve sports facilities in the neighbourhoods.
The mayor encouraged fans to come to Son Moix on August 5 to support the team: "I wish the team good luck in this Trofeu Ciutat de Palma, which we hope will stay at home, and also much encouragement and success in facing an exciting season."
The Trofeu Ciutat de Palma has been held since 1969 and this year will have an extra incentive: the presence of PSG, one of the most powerful clubs on the continent, arriving on the island as European champions. Tickets are already on sale through the club's official channels, and a large turnout is expected at the stadium.
