Nearly 50 fines in a major operation against street drinking in Can Pere Antoni and Portixol

The Local Police of Palma carried out a special operation on the night of July 18 on the beaches of Can Pere Antoni and Portixol, resulting in nearly fifty fines and the confiscation of nine speakers.

The Local Police of Palma deployed a special operation on the night of Saturday, July 18, on the beaches of Can Pere Antoni and the promenade of Portixol to curb street drinking and nighttime parties that have caused significant distress to local residents. The outcome, according to the official report released this Monday by the force, was nearly fifty fines and the intervention of nine speakers.

An operation with two fronts

The operation began at 10:30 PM and was divided into two parallel actions. On one side, agents from the Preventive Action Group (GAP) focused their efforts on the beach and parking area of Can Pere Antoni. On the other, a specific unit inspected the establishments along the Portixol promenade to ensure compliance with regulations regarding hours and noise emissions.

At the beach, the agents issued 22 reports for alcohol consumption in public and reported nine individuals for causing disturbances with music. During the intervention, nine speakers were confiscated which, according to the Police, disrupted the rest of the residents. Additionally, three more reports were filed for urinating in public, obstructing police identification, and hindering the agents' actions.

Traffic controls and public safety

At the checkpoint set up in the parking area of Can Pere Antoni, eight vehicles were inspected. As a result, the agents initiated criminal proceedings against one driver for an alleged traffic safety offence for driving without ever having obtained a driving license. Furthermore, the GAP reported another driver who registered a blood alcohol level of 0.65 milligrams per litre of exhaled air and fined three individuals for not wearing seatbelts.

In terms of traffic and public safety, the police processed four reports against users of personal mobility vehicles, one traffic offence, and two reports under the Organic Law on Citizen Security: one for drug possession and another for carrying tools for consumption. Two additional reports were also filed for possession of narcotic substances and for having tools to manipulate them.

Inspection of establishments in Portixol

The unit responsible for inspecting the establishments along the promenade found that most complied with the regulations regarding hours and noise emissions, with no music played outside. The only exception was one establishment that played audible music from the public road. The agents filed three reports: one for the music coming from the terrace, another for failing to display the activity documentation, and a third for inspection.

The operation concluded at 12:45 AM with a final check of the terraces, during which the Local Police verified that all establishments had ceased their activities. Local residents, who have been complaining about noise and disturbances for months, can breathe a little easier, although the underlying problem – street drinking – remains. The Local Police have promised to repeat similar operations if complaints continue.
