The programme from September to January includes 18 shows, including the 41st Opera Season, dance, and family-friendly proposals. The president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, highlights the commitment to local talent.
Teatre Principal de Palma unveiled the details of its 2026/2027 season this Thursday, which will kick off on September 25 and run until the end of January. The programme, unanimously approved by the Board of the Teatre Principal Foundation, combines major contemporary and classic texts with dance, music, family shows, and the 41st Opera Season.
The president of the Mallorca Council, Llorenç Galmés, emphasised during the presentation that "this new season bets on great contemporary and classic texts, and on a vibrant scene that connects with the audience." Galmés added that the programme aims to "continue reinforcing local talent, co-productions, and the variety that defines the Principal."
For his part, the theatre director, Miquel Martorell, noted that the proposal "maintains the hallmark of original production and incorporates proposals that engage with current reality, with high-quality staging and exceptional casts."
The season will open with the historic company La Zaranda, which will present ‘All the Angels Took Flight’ on September 25, a piece of deep reflection and social critique about the peripheries. Two days later, on September 27, Cia. Ester Guntín will inaugurate the dance season with ‘Quiso negro’, a visual show inspired by the iconographic and symbolic universe of ritual.
In the theatrical section, the programme includes the multi-award-winning ‘L’arquitecte’, by Josep R. Cerdà, which will be presented on September 30 as part of Fira B!. On October 1, Cyrano, a co-production of Teatre Principal with La Impaciència, based on Rostand's work, will arrive. On October 2, it will be the turn of Bachata, a co-production with Ovnipresents, and on October 3, Paraules delicades, from Minúcia Teatre de Menorca.
On November 6, Casting Lear, a proposal by Andrea Jiménez inspired by King Lear by Shakespeare, will be performed. On November 14, The Picture of Dorian Gray, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's work starring Àngels Gonyalons, one of the great successes of this year's Grec Festival in Barcelona, will arrive.
On November 29, Tot fent “La bella Helena”, the contemporary revision by Miquel Mas Fiol based on Jacques Offenbach's work, will be presented. This production marks the first co-production of contemporary text theatre in years between Teatre Principal and Teatre Lliure de Barcelona, and will be performed in the Sala Gran.
In December, the programme includes Denmark, by Lluïsa Cunillé, performed by Pere Arquillué and Imma Colomer (December 3); The Threepenny Opera, by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, featuring Coque Malla as the lead (December 5); ‘The Gratitudes’, an adaptation of Delphine de Vigan's novel with Gloria Muñoz (December 13); and This is Not a Romantic Comedy, by Pau Pascual and Marina Nicolau, a co-production of Teatre Principal and El Somni Produccions (December 18, 19, and 20).
In 2027, on January 24, ‘The Burnt Garden’, by Juan Mayorga, will be presented, featuring a cast led by Adriana Ozores and Miguel Hermoso. On January 28, ‘Acorar sin límites’, by Toni Gomila, will take the stage, reviving one of the most emblematic shows of Balearic theatre in an inclusive version.
The Sala Petita consolidates itself as a space for proximity with proposals such as ‘Concert of Love and Death’, by Pedro Casablanc, based on texts by Quevedo and Bécquer (November 10 and 11); Twelve Square Metres of Skin, by La Rueda Teatro Social (December 5); and Litteros, by Miquel Brunet (December 9). There will also be training and research activities.
In the musical realm, the concert by the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears dedicated to cinema will be on September 24. The Extraordinary Concert of Santa Cecilia (November 22) will feature the Banda de Música de Santanyí. The Christmas Concert of the Teatre Principal choirs will take place on December 16 and 17. The Orquestra de Cambra de Mallorca, conducted by Bernat Quetglas, will celebrate its ten years with a special concert on January 23.
The musical programme also includes the ME_MMIX Festival with Ensemble Phace and Nacho de Paz (November 13) and a stop of the Jazz Voyeur Festival at Teatre Principal.
Tickets for all shows will be on sale soon through the Teatre Principal website and at the box office. The season subscription is already available for regular viewers.
