The Department of Families and Social Welfare has launched eight new supervised housing places for people with mental health issues in Manacor, located in the Sa Ràfia de Llevant building of the Estel Foundation.

The Balearic Government has strengthened the mental health care network in Mallorca with the opening of eight supervised housing places in Manacor. The new resource, located in the Sa Ràfia de Llevant building, is managed by the Estel Foundation and began operations on June 1, as reported by the Department of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care.

With these eight places, the public network of supervised housing and shared homes in the Balearic Islands reaches 147. Specifically, there are now 97 supervised housing places and 50 shared homes, contracted by the Department. In Mallorca, the management is in the hands of the Estel Foundation of Llevant, Gira-sol, Fundació Es Garrover and GREC, while in Ibiza it is managed by the Apfem entity.

An investment of €2.1 million in the Sa Ràfia de Llevant building

The establishment of the building has involved an investment of €2.1 million, allocated for the acquisition and rehabilitation of the building. In addition to the eight supervised housing places, the facility houses a new occupational service with capacity for 30 people and the employment integration project T'Estim Cafè.

The Minister of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, and the Director General of Dependency Care, María Antònia Mora, visited the facilities and also learned about the ecological nursery of Estel de Llevant, a training and employment integration project involving people with mental health issues.

Fernández highlighted the strengthening of the supervised housing network and thanked the Estel Foundation of Llevant for its commitment to the care and inclusion of people with mental health issues.

“These eight new places are a step forward in mental health care on the island. Supervised housing allows people with mental health issues to live independently with the necessary support,” said the minister.

A key resource for integration in the Llevant region

For the residents of Manacor and the Llevant region, the opening of these places represents a significant advance. Until now, many people with mental health issues had to travel to Palma or other municipalities to access this type of resource. With the new supervised housing in Sa Ràfia de Llevant, users can remain in their environment, close to their families and community services.

The building, in addition to the housing, offers an occupational service that already serves 30 people, with activities aimed at personal autonomy and job preparation. The T'Estim Cafè project, on the other hand, is a job integration initiative that combines training in hospitality with therapeutic support.

The Department has reminded that the public network of the Balearic Islands also includes the 29 places at the Can Raspalls residence in Ibiza, managed by the Foundation for Dependency Care and Promotion of Personal Autonomy of the Balearic Islands. In total, between supervised housing, shared homes and residences, the community offers 176 specific places for mental health.

The new places are already operational and referrals are made through municipal social services and the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS). Interested parties can request information at the Manacor Town Hall or at the Estel Foundation of Llevant itself.
