A 32-year-old man of Moroccan origin is hospitalized at Son Espases in Palma after being stabbed in the neck while sleeping in his home in Capdepera. The alleged attacker, his 35-year-old flatmate of the same origin, has fled and is being sought by the Local Police and the Guardia Civil.
The events occurred around 12:20 PM this Sunday in a house in the Cala Gat area. According to the Servei d’Atenció Mèdica Urgent (Samu-061), the victim suffered a wound about four centimetres deep in the neck, caused by a sharp weapon.
Neighbours alerted to the presence of the attacker with a knife
Hours before the attack, several witnesses saw the alleged attacker wandering around the Cala Gat area without a shirt and carrying a kitchen knife. Alarmed neighbours alerted the Local Police, but they could not prevent the assault. The man entered his home, stabbed the victim while he was sleeping, and then left the house.
A friend of the injured man accompanied him to the Punto de Atención Continuada (PAC) de Capdepera, from where the medical staff alerted that a patient had arrived with serious neck injuries from a knife wound. An ambulance from Servicio Vital Avanzado arrived at the health centre and stabilized the man.
Helicopter evacuation and polytrauma code
Given the severity of the injuries, the severe polytrauma code was activated, and the patient was airlifted by Samu-061 to Son Espases hospital in Palma, where he remains hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing to locate the alleged attacker, who apparently acted under the influence of alcohol.
Residents of Capdepera are shocked by what happened in a quiet residential area. The Local Police are asking for public assistance to find the whereabouts of the suspect, who may have moved to other locations on the island.
