Llucmajor's mayor, Xisca Lascolas, has announced that she will not seek re-election in 2027. She has been in municipal politics for 16 years and assures that her decision is well-considered and agreed upon with the party.
Xisca Lascolas, mayor of Llucmajor since 2023, has confirmed that she will not lead the PP list in the upcoming municipal elections. The decision, which she communicated this week, brings an end to a 16-year trajectory in local politics. Lascolas, 40, states that she faces this with serenity and that she has not received pressure from the party leadership.
A well-considered decision without pressure
In an interview, Lascolas explained that the decision not to run again was not made lightly. “
A decision like this is not made in two days or two months,” she stated. She denied having received pressure from the president of the Balearic PP or from the regional leadership, and assured that the party respects her stepping aside. “Some would have liked the term to have been 8 years to finish the projects started,” she added.
Management in difficult times
Lascolas' term has been marked by crises such as the mega-farm issue, waste collection, and the Son Fosquet conflict. Regarding how she has endured the pressure, the mayor noted: “
At home, they tell me that I am made of different stuff.” She explained that she has had to learn from each issue, immerse herself in laws, and listen to specialists to make decisions. “It would have been easy to resign at the beginning, but I consider myself a loyal person,” she emphasized.
Transition underway
One day after the announcement, the PP of Llucmajor communicated that they are already looking for a new candidate. Lascolas believes the party acted logically: “This is politics; in 11 months, there are municipal elections. It is the party's duty to communicate that they are already working on a next candidate.” The opposition, for its part, has questioned her management at the helm of the council, although Lascolas defended her work: “Being in opposition is much easier than governing.”
For the residents of Llucmajor, the news represents a change in the direction of the municipal government. Lascolas will remain as mayor until the end of the legislature, expected in 2027, and assures that she will continue to work with the same dedication. “After 16 years in politics, I do not look beyond the year I have left as mayor,” she concluded.
