The company Avícola Son Perot responds to the motion from the Manacor Town Hall against factory farms and defends that its project complies with the law. The company insists that the decision should be based on technical and legal reports, not political positions.

Avícola Son Perot has responded to the motion approved by the Manacor Town Hall against factory farms and intensive farming. In a statement, the company argues that the viability of its project for a new chicken farm at the Son Brau estate should be based on technical and legal reports, not political decisions.

A project in processing subject to technical reports

The Avícola Son Perot project in Manacor is currently in processing and subject to the administrative procedures set by legislation. The company emphasizes that, in a state governed by law, laws and technical reports should underpin any decision. The municipal motion, driven by the mayor of Manacor, opposes factory farms, but the company reminds that the project has not yet received a final resolution.

The Macrogranjas No Platform has already submitted allegations against the project, focusing on the impact on water resources, the management of livestock waste, and nitrate pollution. The GOB has also requested that the Environmental Impact Declaration not be favourable until the repercussions on the Special Conservation Area of Na Borges are assessed. However, Avícola Son Perot defends that its project meets all environmental requirements.

A production model without cages and with animal welfare

Avícola Son Perot has explained that its project responds to the new production models promoted by European regulations. It is a farm of free-range and ground-raised chickens, without cages, with a clear focus on improving animal welfare. The company asserts that its farms operate under a permanent system of controls, inspections, and audits that ensure compliance with European, national, and regional legislation.

The company has emphasized that current poultry farms are highly regulated and that environmental protection is one of their main management axes. They claim to respect minimum distances from population centres and incorporate systems to optimize the use of natural resources, especially water. Additionally, they have specific measures to minimize emissions and reduce odours.

For Avícola Son Perot, it is essential that companies investing in Mallorca have a stable legal security framework, predictable and based on the objective application of regulations. The company warns that any decision affecting the continuity of these farms would have a direct impact on employment and the economy of the island.

Zero-kilometre eggs and food sovereignty

The company has highlighted the direct and indirect jobs generated by its farms in Mallorca. The eggs produced by Avícola Son Perot are Mallorcan, a zero-kilometre product that reduces transportation emissions and contributes to the food sovereignty of the archipelago. The company emphasizes that egg consumption has steadily increased and is not linked to the growth of tourism in the Balearics.

Avícola Son Perot concludes that the future of the agri-food sector in Mallorca must be based on objective data, scientific criteria, and compliance with the law. It aims to avoid simplifications that could harm a strategic sector for the economy, employment, rural areas, and food self-sufficiency of the islands. The company hopes that technical reports will determine the viability of the project, while local and political opposition continues to press.
