The BOE publishes the tender for the new Civil Guard barracks in Santanyí, with a budget of 7 million euros and a timeframe of 21 months. It will include housing for agents, in a context of housing access crisis.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published on Wednesday the tender for the construction of the new Civil Guard barracks in Santanyí, a long-demanded project that is now open for bids with a base budget of €7,033,589.89 (excluding VAT). The expected execution period is 21 months, as stated in the contract documents.

A key infrastructure for the municipality's security

The new building will not only house the operational facilities of the armed institute but will also include housing for the agents stationed in the area. This aspect is particularly relevant in a context marked by difficulties in accessing housing in the municipality, an issue that directly affects the ability to attract and retain personnel.

The mayor of Santanyí, Maria Pons, has positively assessed the publication of the public tender:

“The tender marks the real start of the project's execution. It is an essential infrastructure for Santanyí and will improve both security and the conditions of the agents stationed in our municipality.”

The Town Hall cedes the land, valued at 6.5 million

The viability of the project has been made possible thanks to the contribution of municipal land by the Santanyí Town Hall, which has been adapting the land transfers over time to configure a final plot of 3,203 square meters. This land, valued at around 6.5 million euros, has been crucial for the Ministry of the Interior to promote the tender, as highlighted by the Town Hall.

The land transfer has been a long and complex process. The Town Hall has worked for years to gather a suitable plot, overcoming urban planning and administrative obstacles. Now, with the tender published, the definitive step is taken for the works to begin.

New offices in Cala d'Or and reinforcement of the staff

In parallel, the Town Hall has announced plans for the opening of new Civil Guard service offices in the multifunctional centre of Cala d'Or, in order to bring the service closer to other population centres in the municipality, such as Cala Figuera or Cala Llombards.

This measure aims to decongest the current barracks and offer closer service to residents and tourists in the coastal areas, which see their population multiply in summer. The initiative is part of a plan to reinforce security in the municipality, which also includes increasing the Local Police personnel.

For the residents of Santanyí, the construction of the new barracks represents a tangible improvement in security and a boost to the stability of the Civil Guard staff. With available housing, the agents will be able to reside in the municipality, which favours their integration and availability. The works, if awarded in the coming months, could begin at the end of 2025 and finish in 2027.
