Caló d'en Busques, in Cala Figuera, was completely full for the concert 'Música arran de mar', featuring the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, soprano Ofelia Sala, and pianist Bartomeu Jaume.
Caló d'en Busques, in Cala Figuera, became the epicentre of Balearic classical music this weekend. The concert 'Música arran de mar', part of the XIV International Music Festival Vila de Santanyí, sold out and gathered an enthusiastic audience under a spectacular full moon.
The evening was conducted by maestro Jordi Blanch and featured the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, soprano Ofelia Sala, and pianist Bartomeu Jaume. The repertoire included great works from European opera, with compositions by Gounod, Wagner, and Verdi, as well as zarzuela pieces like Los Gavilanes and La verbena de la Paloma.
A Golden Finale Over the Sea
One of the most applauded moments was the performance of the finale from the opera El Castell d'iràs i no tornaràs, by the Mallorcan composer Jaume Mas Porcel. However, the most emotional moment came at the end: the choir members left the stage to perform Va, pensiero by Verdi among the audience, while soprano Ofelia Sala slowly rowed away in a llaüt, with the music still playing in the harbour.
“It will be etched in the festival's memory,” said the Councillor for Culture, Mateu Nadal. The mayor of Santanyí highlighted that the presence of a Grammy-winning ensemble, combined with the setting of Cala Figuera, reaffirms the municipality's commitment to top-level cultural experiences.
Santanyí Establishes Itself as a Cultural Reference
With this concert, the XIV International Music Festival Vila de Santanyí continues its programme and establishes itself as one of the main cultural events in the Balearics. For the locals, events like this demonstrate that there is no need to go to the capital to enjoy internationally acclaimed performances. The festival, held in various locations throughout the municipality, offers a unique opportunity to experience music in privileged natural settings.
The next concert already has a date and is expected to meet expectations once again. Those who missed it will need to keep an eye on ticket sales for the next edition, as the success of this evening makes it clear that top-level culture also has a place in the most beautiful corners of the island.
