The fourteenth edition of the La Alcudia-UA Classical Theatre Festival, organised by the University of Alicante, has concluded with full attendance at all its activities, establishing itself as a summer cultural reference.
The La Alcudia-UA Classical Theatre Festival has made history once again. The event, which took place from July 1 to 10 at the archaeological site of La Alcudia in Elche, has managed to fill all seats for all performances and parallel activities, a milestone that positions it as one of the most successful cultural events of the summer in the province of Alicante.
A success that transcends the stage
Not only theatre has been the protagonist. The guided tours of the site organised by the University Institute of Research in Archaeology and Historical Heritage (INAPH) also reached full capacity, as did the presentations of the Casa de Comedias collection from the UA Publications Service. The audience has responded massively to a proposal that integrates culture, heritage, and research.
The Vice-Rector for Culture, Sport, and University Extension, Catalina Iliescu, expressed her "deep pride" at the reception. "That all activities have reached full capacity is the best indication that the university is offering cultural proposals that connect with society," she stated.
Seven shows that captivated the audience
The programme included seven shows that offered contemporary perspectives on the classics. From university productions to professional companies, all performances recorded full attendance, something the organisation describes as "exceptional".
The archaeological site of La Alcudia, one of the most important in the Mediterranean, became a unique stage where archaeological research and the performing arts coexisted for ten days. Attendees were able to enjoy a complete cultural experience that combined theatre, literature, and heritage.
Boosting university culture
Iliescu highlighted that the success of the festival "is not limited to the stage" and that participation in parallel activities was also total. "The audience values a programme that integrates theatre, heritage, research, and cultural dissemination in the same space," she affirmed.
This result, according to the vice-rector, encourages the University of Alicante to "continue growing" and to "strengthen cultural and university extension programmes." "They constitute one of the major priorities of this vice-rectorate," she emphasised.
The La Alcudia University Foundation for Archaeological Research and the UA thus conclude an edition that consolidates the festival as one of the main cultural references of the summer in Alicante. The combination of artistic creation, archaeological heritage, scientific research, and dissemination has once again been the key to success.
