The XIV Classical Theatre Festival of La Alcudia, organised by the University of Alicante, has posted a full house sign for nearly all its activities, held from 1 to 10 July at the Illicit archaeological site.
The XIV Classical Theatre Festival of La Alcudia has managed to fill the capacity for seven of the eight scheduled performances. Only a few tickets remained available for one of the shows, according to the University of Alicante.
The event, which took place between 1 and 10 July at the archaeological site of Elche, has solidified its position as one of the cultural highlights of the summer in the province. The University of Alicante, through its Vice-Rectorate of Culture, has been the driving force behind this edition.
A programme that sold out tickets
The seven classical theatre plays, performed by both professional companies and groups linked to education, attracted a massive audience. Attendees were able to enjoy classic texts adapted with contemporary approaches, combining fidelity to the originals with new staging.
In addition to the performances, parallel activities also saw high demand. The presentations of the “Casa de Comèdies” collection, published by the UA Publishing Service, sold out their places at all scheduled meetings.
Guided tours of the site received great reception
The University Institute of Research in Archaeology and Historical Heritage (INAPH) organised thematic tours that allowed attendees to learn about the UA's research lines at La Alcudia. These tours also filled their capacity, according to the Vice-Rector of Culture, Catalina Iliescu.
Iliescu highlighted that the public's response demonstrates that the festival connects with society. “That all activities have reached full capacity is the best evidence that the university is offering cultural proposals that resonate with society,” she stated in a statement.
For the residents of Elche and the surrounding area, the festival has become an unmissable summer event. The La Alcudia site, just a few kilometres from the urban centre, provides an unmatched historical setting for the performances.
The Vice-Rector emphasised that the results encourage continued improvement. “This result motivates us to keep growing, to keep enhancing each of our proposals,” Iliescu indicated.
The festival has combined performing arts, research, heritage, and outreach. The La Alcudia University Foundation has collaborated in the organisation, strengthening the bond between the university and the Illicit society.
