The president Llorenç Galmés and the councillor Pedro Bestard visited the Miquel Jaume-Palma Futsal Campus at the Polideportivo Sant Ferran, where 350 young people combine sport and values during the school holidays.
The Polideportivo Sant Ferran has become this week the epicentre of grassroots sport in Mallorca. The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the second vice president and councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, visited the Miquel Jaume-Palma Futsal Campus on Friday, an initiative that brings together 350 young people during the school holidays.
The campus, a result of the collaboration between the Consell de Mallorca and Illes Balears Palma Futsal, is part of the “Jugam amb l’elit” programme, which aims to bring elite clubs closer to grassroots sport. Participants not only train in futsal but also engage in multi-sport activities such as swimming and paddle tennis, cooperative games, and dynamics to promote coexistence and healthy habits.
A visit with goalkeeper Luan Muller as the star
Accompanied by the island director of Sports, Toni Prats, and the representative of the club's Social Area, Martín López, Galmés and Bestard shared a day with the young participants. The most anticipated moment was the visit from the goalkeeper of Palma Futsal, Luan Muller, who was interviewed by the attendees. The authorities also got to know first-hand the activities and appreciated the educational role that sports campuses develop beyond competition.
“Sport is one of the best tools for educating in values. Here, children learn much more than technique or tactics: they learn to respect their teammates, to strive every day, and to understand that successes are always the result of teamwork,” commented Galmés.
Bestard, for his part, highlighted the collaboration between institutions and Mallorcan clubs: “Palma Futsal is an example of sporting excellence, but also of commitment to society. This campus demonstrates that elite sport can have a direct return on young people, helping them grow in an environment of respect, discipline, and enthusiasm.”
A model that unites sport and values
The campus is not limited to futsal. Young people combine specific training with multi-sport activities and cooperative games, consolidating a model that unites sport, education, and social cohesion. Each week, participants receive a visit from a first-team player, who shares their sporting experience and inspires them to follow in their footsteps.
For families in Palma and nearby municipalities, this initiative represents an opportunity for their children to enjoy active and educational holidays. The campus is held at the Polideportivo Sant Ferran, a key facility for grassroots sport in the Balearic capital.
Next week, the campus will continue with new activities and visits from players of Palma Futsal, maintaining the commitment of the Consell de Mallorca to grassroots sport and the transmission of values.
