The FEHM highlights the 'safety and normality' of the eclipse in tourist areas and thanks the 2,100 personnel for their work.

The Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca (FEHM) has reviewed the total solar eclipse that occurred on Wednesday with a very positive assessment. The association asserts that the day passed with 'safety, normality, and without notable incidents' in the main tourist areas of the island, as reported by hotel associations from Alcúdia, Can Picafort, Playa de Muro, Palmanova-Magaluf, Pollença, Andratx, the Serra de Tramuntana, Cala Millor, Cala d'Or, Palma, and Colònia de Sant Jordi.

In a statement, the FEHM emphasizes that the day's proceedings were 'orderly' even in the areas with the highest influx of visitors. The prior planning, established devices, and the responsible behaviour of attendees were, in their view, the keys to success.

One of the aspects most valued by the association is that the information channel between administrations and hotel establishments functioned correctly. Thanks to this, hotels were informed in advance of official recommendations, could relay them to staff and clients, and organized their operations according to the guidelines for each area.

The FEHM has expressed gratitude for the work of the administrations, security forces, local police, emergency services, firefighters, and all the professionals mobilized. Together, they assert, 'a picture of Mallorca was projected as a prepared, organized destination capable of adequately managing an event of this nature.'

Assessment of the Eclipbal operation

The Director General of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, has also celebrated the good functioning of the operation deployed for the eclipse, which involved more than 2,100 personnel. In a press conference to assess the Eclipbal operation, Gárriz highlighted that 'the success belongs to the Balearic society as a whole' and that the citizens, both residents and visitors, 'rose to the occasion.'

Gárriz emphasized that mobility was 'good' and that traffic flows worked well both in arriving at observation points and in returning, although he noted that 'this does not mean there were no traffic jams.' He also highlighted the 'good functioning' of municipal emergency plans and mobility plans, which 'adapted very well to the reality' of the day. 'We are very satisfied with the procedure and methodology,' he summarized.

The director general defended the measures and restrictions adopted by the Government to ensure safety. 'Without all this work, we cannot know what would have happened. What is clear is that by doing everything we have done, we have this result,' he added.

For hoteliers, the eclipse served as a litmus test of the island's organizational capacity. The FEHM believes that the experience leaves Mallorca in a privileged position for future large events, demonstrating that public-private collaboration and anticipation yield results.

The next challenge for the sector will be to transfer this positive image to the tourism promotion of the destination, taking advantage of the media echo that the astronomical phenomenon has had throughout Spain.
