A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Local Police of Palma after causing disturbances at a venue on the Paseo Marítimo, knocking over a motorcycle and assaulting the officers. He was carrying drugs and had consumed alcohol.

An individual, 34 years old and of Ecuadorian nationality, was arrested in the early hours of June 27 on the Paseo Marítimo in Palma after causing a scene at a leisure venue, knocking over a parked motorcycle and assaulting several Local Police officers. The events occurred around 4:50 AM when the venue's security staff alerted 092.

According to police sources, the man was harassing customers and blocking access to the bathrooms. When asked to stop his behaviour, he responded with slaps and shouting, leading to his expulsion from the venue. Once on the street, barefoot and shirtless, he pushed a parked motorcycle, which fell to the ground and suffered damage to its fairing, brake levers, and a mirror.

Assault on officers and resistance

A patrol from the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) of the Local Police of Palma arrived at the scene to clarify what had happened. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect became even more aggressive. When a police officer approached him, the individual attempted to punch him in the face, although the officer managed to block the blow.

In response to the attempted assault, the officers proceeded to arrest him. However, the man put up a strong active resistance, kicking and trying to spit at the police. The officers were forced to place a medical mask on him to prevent spitting. During the search, they seized a transparent bag with drugs and a metal utensil for consumption.

Transfer to Son Espases and judicial proceedings

Due to his state of agitation and the injuries to his back and face —which he claimed were the result of a previous fight with acquaintances— the detainee was transferred to the detention unit of Son Espases hospital. He remained there for tests until he was discharged. Subsequently, he was taken to police facilities for the report to be prepared and finally placed at the disposal of the judiciary.

The detainee confessed to the medical staff that he had consumed alcohol and various narcotic substances during the night. The Local Police of Palma charges him with an alleged crime of assaulting a police officer and another of minor damage to the motorcycle. The owner of the vehicle, who arrived later, has filed a complaint for the damages.

Residents in the area of the Paseo Marítimo, a usual nightlife spot, have expressed their concern about such incidents, which, although sporadic, create insecurity. The Local Police has reinforced the presence of the UII during weekends to prevent similar disturbances. The detainee, who has no known criminal record, is now awaiting the judge's decision.
