A new power cut left half of Palma in the dark on Friday, particularly affecting Pere Garau and Calle Aragón during a heatwave. Residents are reporting a succession of blackouts and demanding urgent solutions from Endesa.

Friday night turned black again for much of Palma. A new blackout, which occurred around 10:00 PM, left numerous shops, bars, and restaurants on Calle Aragón without electricity and extended to a large part of the Pere Garau neighbourhood, where outages have been recurring since the end of July.

The affected residents, fed up with a situation that keeps repeating during a heatwave, report that the blackouts are disrupting daily life for residents and businesses: elevators out of service, air conditioning that stops working, food that may spoil, and difficulties charging mobile phones.

The concern is particularly serious for elderly people and those with reduced mobility, who may become trapped in their homes without an elevator. In some buildings, the outages also affect communal pressure pumps and cause problems with water supply.

“This is a disgrace. It’s not an isolated incident; Endesa has been doing the same for weeks. Citizens must say enough and report this company,” lament the residents.

During the early hours, there were also incidents with street lighting and traffic lights. Residents are demanding a definitive solution and believe that the succession of incidents demonstrates that urgent actions are necessary to ensure a stable and safe supply.

“We cannot be in the middle of summer, with this heatwave, without power and without knowing when it will return,” say the affected, who demand answers, investments, and urgent measures.

Endesa has informed residents that the incident was related to a fault in the Garau line from the Nuredduna substation. Meanwhile, residents are preparing for the next blackout and have circulated a guide with basic recommendations: stay calm, contact the distributor, disconnect sensitive electronic devices, avoid using elevators, refrain from opening the fridge unnecessarily, and conserve mobile battery for emergencies.

The organization also encourages those affected to file formal complaints with their retail companies and with the relevant authorities. The question that remains is simple: how many more blackouts will Pere Garau have to endure before measures are taken?
