The road network in Mallorca recorded an average of 14,492 vehicles per day in 2025, an increase of only 0.5% that breaks the upward trend of the last decade, according to data from the Consell de Mallorca.

The Consell de Mallorca has made public the data on average daily traffic intensity on the island's road network during 2025, and the main conclusion is that the pressure on the roads has stabilised for the first time since the pandemic. The average was 14,492 vehicles per day, just 0.5% more than the previous year, a figure that contrasts with the increases of over 4% recorded in 2023 and 2024.

This slowdown does not hide the fact that there are points where the density remains extreme. The most problematic area continues to be the section of the ring road near the junction with the Inca motorway, with 188,460 cars per day. However, even here the increase has been limited to 0.6% compared to 2024, reinforcing the idea that the growth curve is flattening.

A decade of unstoppable growth

To understand the change in trend, one must look back. In 2016, the average was 11,792 vehicles per day, and since then, except for the pandemic hiatus, the rise has been constant. By 2019, it had already surpassed 13,000, and in 2024 it approached 14,415. In total, between 2016 and 2025, the accumulated increase is close to 23%, according to Consell data.

The pandemic caused a collapse in 2020, with only 9,291 cars per day on average, but recovery was immediate: by 2021, it had returned to 12,096, and since then the trend has clearly been upward until now. That growth has been reduced to 0.5% is, for experts, a sign that mobility may be reaching its peak in some corridors.

The black spots of the network

Beyond the ring road, other roads maintain very high figures. On the airport motorway, near the entrance to Palma, the average intensity was 148,973 vehicles per day, practically the same as the previous year. On the Valldemossa road, also on the ring road, 170,547 cars per day were recorded, with a minimal increase compared to 2024.

For residents of Palma and the municipalities of Raiguer, these figures translate into daily traffic jams that, although they have not worsened significantly, remain a headache. The Consell has already announced that it will study new measures to alleviate congestion, such as improving access or promoting public transport. For now, the stabilisation provides some relief, but does not solve the underlying problem.

What to expect in the coming months

The Consell has indicated that it will commission a new load study to analyse the evolution of traffic in the coming years. The forecast is that, if the economy remains stable, the figures will remain at similar levels, although always subject to factors such as tourism or roadworks. For the driver who faces the ring road every day, the good news is that, at least, things are not getting worse.
