Pedro Bestard, Councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, joined the tandem exhibition at the Amateur and Owners Club Day at the Manacor Hippodrome, to the applause of the audience.
The Manacor Hippodrome experienced a special evening this Saturday with the Amateur and Owners Club Day, an event that combined competition, spectacle, and citizen participation. The highlight came when the executive councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports of the Mallorca Council, Pedro Bestard, surprised attendees by getting on a tandem and taking part in the exhibition race.
The day, which is part of the Balearic trotting calendar, included qualifying events for the Amateur Tournament and activities for the whole family. The tandem exhibition brought together amateur drivers with guests such as Miquel Calent, Miquel Soler, Chichi Soler, Toni Prats, Maria Barceló, Marta Ferrer, and Jovan Stankovic. Bestard's participation, as he mounted the shared sulky, was met with applause from the audience.
A Sport Open to All
Bestard highlighted that "events like this demonstrate that trotting is a sport open to everyone, capable of combining competition, entertainment, and participation." He added that the involvement of the Amateur and Owners Club and the collaboration of well-known individuals help to give greater visibility to the sport and bring it closer to new generations and many families.
The atmosphere in the stands was excellent, according to sources from the hippodrome. The day featured children's activities and spaces for the public to share a moment with the guests. The president of the Balearic Trotting Federation, Juan Antonio Rosselló Comas, also attended the event, which has become one of the most participative events of the season.
Trotting as a Family Attraction
The initiative aims to bring trotting to new audiences, especially families. For the residents of Manacor and the Llevant region, the hippodrome becomes a meeting point where sport mixes with leisure. Bestard's presence, who is also responsible for Sports at the Council, reinforces institutional support for such events.
The Amateur and Owners Club Day is held annually at the Manacor Hippodrome, a facility that hosts trotting competitions throughout the year. The next major event will be the Gran Premi de Manacor, scheduled for August, which will bring together the best horses and drivers from the Balearic Islands. Interested parties can check the full calendar on the hippodrome's website.
