The 25-year-old Cádiz winger-cum-defender Pablo Otero arrives on a free transfer after parting ways with Ribera Navarra and signs a long-term contract with the Balearic club. He will play next season on loan at Viña Albali Valdepeñas.

The Illes Balears Palma Futsal announced on Monday the signing of winger-cum-defender Pablo Otero, who has signed a contract until June 2029. The 25-year-old Cádiz player arrives with a free transfer after finishing his time at Ribera Navarra. However, he will not debut with the Balearic shirt until the 2027/28 season: the club has decided to loan him to Viña Albali Valdepeñas for the 2026/27 season.

A future investment for defence

Otero, who was trained in the youth academy of Real Betis Futsal, was crowned champion of the Copa del Rey in 2024 with the green-and-white team. There, he played alongside Manolo Piqueras, a current player of Palma Futsal. After his time at Betis, he joined Ribera Navarra, where he played two seasons in the First Division, accumulating over 1,500 minutes of play.

The club's sports director, Juanito Martín, highlighted the player's versatility: "Pablo can play both as a defender and as a winger, and his tactical ability fits perfectly into our playing model. It is a future investment." The loan to Valdepeñas, according to club sources, aims for the player to "continue competing at the highest level before joining the Son Moix project."

The growth plan of Palma Futsal

This operation is part of the club's strategy to anticipate the market and invest in young talent with potential. In recent years, Palma Futsal has combined veteran signings with the recruitment of prospects like David Peña and Álex González, who were previously loaned out before settling into the first team.

For Palma fans, the news brings a double perspective: on one hand, the joy of seeing the club secure one of the promises of national futsal; on the other, the patience to wait until 2027 to see him in the Balearic jersey. Meanwhile, Otero will face Palma Futsal when Valdepeñas visits Son Moix this season. A match that promises to be special.

What to expect from the loan

Viña Albali Valdepeñas, a well-established team in the elite, offers Otero a context of high demands. Coach Juan Carlos Gálvez has already expressed interest in having a defensive profile like that of the Cádiz player. "He is a player who provides balance and ball distribution," the Manchegan coach valued in statements to the club.

The contract until 2029 demonstrates Palma Futsal's confidence in his progression. If all goes as planned, Otero will arrive in Mallorca at the age of 27, in his prime footballing moment. Meanwhile, the Balearic club continues to work on other signings for the next season, aiming to compete for the top spots in the standings.

The fans can start preparing the welcome: Pablo Otero will be a player for Illes Balears Palma Futsal, although he still has to wait a year to don the shirt at Son Moix. The countdown has begun.
