The municipal football pitch of Sant Jordi, in Palma, now has 160 new seats in its main stand, a improvement that allows it to meet the requirements of the Royal Spanish Football Federation for official competitions.

Last Thursday, the Municipal Sports Institute (IME) of Palma completed the installation of 160 new seats at the municipal football pitch of Sant Jordi. The work, which included supply and assembly, involved an investment of €2,207 including VAT.

The seats are made of high-resistance copolymer polypropylene, a material designed to withstand daily use and outdoor weather conditions. The installation was carried out by the IME's own maintenance team, which helped reduce the total cost.

The first deputy mayor and sports councillor, Javier Bonet, visited the installation along with the general director of Sports, David Salom, the manager of the IME, Miguel Ángel Bennàssar, and the president of the local club, Jaume Gelabert. They all checked the results of the improvement on-site.

A stand that meets federation standards

The renovation of the main stand responds to the need to meet the requirements of the Royal Spanish Football Federation for hosting official matches. Until now, the Sant Jordi pitch did not have a sufficient number of fixed seats, which limited its capacity to host competitions in higher categories.

With the new seats, the venue reaches the minimum capacity required for Third Division matches and lower categories. The local club, which plays in Preferente, can now aim for promotion without having to look for an alternative pitch.

The City Council of Palma, through the IME, has emphasized that this action is part of a plan to maintain and improve municipal sports facilities. The goal is to ensure that local residents and athletes have access to equipment in optimal conditions.

A modest but effective investment

The €2,207 invested contrasts with the impact that the improvement has for the club and the fans. The president of Sant Jordi, Jaume Gelabert, positively assessed the action:

“These seats allow us to comply with regulations and offer more comfort to our members. It’s a step forward for the club.”

The supplying company, ALTOGAN Sport, S.L., was responsible for manufacturing the seats, while the installation was carried out by municipal workers. This public-private collaboration allowed for cost savings on installation and expedited timelines.

For the residents of Sant Jordi, the improvement represents a source of pride. The pitch, which previously had concrete stands without seats, now presents a more professional image. Sunday matches will be more comfortable for fans, who will no longer have to bring cushions or sit on the ground.

The IME does not rule out new actions in the coming months, such as improving the changing rooms or lighting, always within the available budget. For now, the 160 seats are already installed and ready for the next home match of Sant Jordi.
