A 23-year-old man has been seriously injured this Wednesday after falling from a second floor in the Son Cotoner neighbourhood of Palma. The victim struck the roof of a van before plunging to the ground.
A 23-year-old man has been admitted in critical condition to Son Espases hospital after falling from a second floor in the Palma neighbourhood of Son Cotoner. The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. this Wednesday at number 55 Gabriel Font i Martorell street, according to police sources.
Several passers-by alerted emergency services after hearing a loud bang. Upon arrival, they found that the young man had fallen onto the roof of a parked van and then plunged to the ground. The impact was so violent that the van was left dented, according to eyewitnesses.
Emergency Response
An ambulance from Ib-salut was dispatched to the scene, which stabilised the injured man on the roadway. Local police officers in Palma closed the traffic to facilitate the work of the medical staff. After being treated, the young man was transferred to Son Espases, where he remains hospitalised with multiple traumatic injuries.
The emergency response was activated immediately, according to sources from 112. In addition to the ambulance, several patrols from the Local Police and agents from the National Police arrived, who are now in charge of the investigation.
Investigation Underway
The National Police have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the fall. The inquiries are focused on determining whether it was accidental or if there may have been third-party involvement. So far, no arrests have been made, according to a spokesperson from the Balearic Superior Police Headquarters.
The officers are gathering testimonies from neighbours and reviewing security cameras in the area. Gabriel Font i Martorell street is a residential road with moderate traffic, located near the Son Cotoner health centre. For the residents, the incident has caused shock, as they do not recall a similar incident in the area.
The young man, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Son Espases. Doctors are assessing his progress in the coming hours. Investigators are expected to provide more information about the case in the coming days.
