Passengers on the 302 line of the TIB report travelling overcrowded and standing on the motorway. The images, taken last week at four in the afternoon, show the collapse in full journey.

The bus line connecting Can Picafort with Palma, the 302 of the TIB, has become a nightmare for users. According to passenger complaints, it is common to travel standing for the entire journey, even on the motorway, which is not permitted. The photos, taken last week at four in the afternoon, show the vehicle packed, with people standing in the aisle.

The problem is not new. User sources indicate that the collapse has been ongoing for at least three years. The previous bus, which departs from Port d'Alcúdia, no longer stops at that stop because it is full from the origin. The line makes 23 stops before reaching the intermodal station in Palma, passing through Alcúdia, sa Pobla, and Inca.

A service that collapses daily

The situation affects hundreds of Mallorca residents who depend on public transport to go to work, study, or conduct errands in the capital. A passenger exclaimed, "Let’s see when we finally rebel." The complaint has gone viral on social media, where locals demand urgent solutions from the Govern.

The Balearic Govern, through the Consortium of Transport of Mallorca (CTM), is responsible for managing intercity lines. The agency has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, but internal sources acknowledge that demand has increased without any increase in frequency or the size of the vehicles.

The comparison with other public services

While bus users suffer these conditions, Councillor Pedro Bestard has three official cars, according to the same sources. The irony is not lost: no elected official travels overcrowded on the 302 line. The difference between the reality of the average citizen and that of politicians is becoming increasingly evident.

For residents of the Llevant and Migjorn region, this line is vital. Many work in Palma and have no alternative. Private cars are not an option for everyone, and the train only reaches Inca. The bus remains the only direct connection to the capital for towns like Can Picafort, Muro, or Santa Margalida.

A growing demand

Neighbourhood associations and platforms defending public transport have begun to mobilise. They demand that the Govern reinforce the 302 line with more buses of greater capacity, especially during peak hours. They also request that schedules be reviewed to prevent two consecutive buses from being full.

The Santa Margalida Town Hall, the municipality to which Can Picafort belongs, has already expressed its concern. Its mayor, Joan Monjo, has requested an urgent meeting with the CTM to address the problem. "We cannot allow our neighbours to travel like cattle," he stated. The meeting is scheduled for the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, users continue to accumulate hours of travel standing, with the risks that entails on the road. TIB regulations prohibit standing travel on the motorway, but reality shows that the rule is broken daily. The question is how much longer the people of Mallorca will endure before the Govern takes action.
