The RFEF has confirmed the participation of Illes Balears Palma Futsal in the 2026/27 Supercup, which will take place on September 5 and 6 in a final four format.
Illes Balears Palma Futsal now has its first major challenge of the 2026/27 season. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Tuesday that the Mallorca-based team will compete in the Supercup, a tournament that will bring together the four best teams from the previous season on September 5 and 6.
The qualification of Palma Futsal comes through the regular league. The team, managed by Antonio Vadillo, finished in third place last season, a position that has earned them a ticket to the tournament after the complex allocation system of the RFEF was applied.
A Qualification System That Favors Palma
The RFEF's method establishes four sequential slots. The first is for the league champion, which this season was Barça. The second is for the Copa del Rey champion, Jaén FS. The third is for the Copa de España champion, which was also Jaén FS as they achieved a double, so their spot goes to the runner-up of that tournament, Barça.
Since Barça already has two allocated spots (as league champion and as Copa de España runner-up), the fourth spot is awarded to the highest-ranked team in the regular league that is not already qualified. As Barça is already in, the spot goes to second-placed ElPozo Murcia, and the next one to third-placed Illes Balears Palma Futsal.
This situation is reminiscent of what happened five years ago, when the then Palma Futsal also accessed the Supercup through the same route, with Barça as league champion and Inter FS as double cup champion.
The Last Supercup with the Current Format
The 2026/27 edition will be the last to be held under this qualification system. The RFEF has approved a new format for the 2027/28 season, where the four participants will be the season champion, the Torneo Apertura champion, the Torneo Clausura champion, and the Copa de España champion.
For Palma Futsal fans, this news brings joy in the middle of summer. The team will have the opportunity to fight for the first official title of the season, and they will do so against top-level rivals such as Barça, Jaén FS, and ElPozo Murcia. The event will take place at a venue yet to be confirmed, but what is clear is that the Balearic team will once again be in the elite of Spanish futsal.
The club has already announced that the season ticket campaign for the upcoming season is still open, and this qualification for the Supercup is an additional incentive for fans to renew or become members. Palma Futsal faces an exciting season, with the Supercup as the first showcase.
