The Andratx Town Hall has set up a free shuttle bus service on July 10, 11, and 16 to connect the municipality's areas during the Festes de la Mare de Déu del Carme.

The Andratx Town Hall has announced the launch of a free shuttle bus service during the Festes de la Mare de Déu del Carme, which will take place on July 10, 11, and 16. The initiative, driven by the Festivals department led by councillor Iván Sánchez, aims to facilitate movement between the different areas of the municipality and reduce the use of private vehicles on the busiest days.

Routes and schedules of the shuttle service

The free bus will connect Andratx, s’Arracó, Port d’Andratx, and Sant Elm, allowing residents and visitors to move comfortably between these points. The service will be operational during the three key days of the festive programme, coinciding with events that attract the largest crowds. According to municipal sources, the schedule will adapt to the planned activities, with frequencies ensuring mobility throughout the day.

The mayor, Estefanía Gonzalvo, highlighted that “the Festes de la Mare de Déu del Carme are a very special event for the municipality and each year attract thousands of people. With this free shuttle bus service, we continue to promote more accessible, sustainable, and safe festivities.” The measure aims to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate access to the most emblematic events, such as the Marinera Procession on July 16.

Highlighted events and attendance forecast

Among the most followed proposals are the Correfoc and the Nit de Dimonis, the popular street party on Friday, July 10, the Nit del Cavall, and the street party on Saturday, July 11, as well as the main day on July 16, which includes the solemn mass and the traditional Marinera Procession in honour of the Mare de Déu del Carme. Councillor Iván Sánchez stated that “we wanted to reinforce public transport during the most important days of the festivities so that everyone can move comfortably between the different areas of the municipality and enjoy the programme with complete peace of mind.”

For residents of Sant Elm and s’Arracó, who are usually further away from the festive centre, the shuttle bus represents an opportunity to participate without relying on a car. The initiative also aims to reduce emissions and noise pollution during the celebration nights, a concern for residents in the more touristy areas of the municipality.

A boost to sustainable mobility

The free service not only facilitates the logistics of the festivities but also reinforces the Town Hall's commitment to more sustainable mobility. In previous years, the high number of private vehicles caused traffic jams and parking problems at the accesses to Port d’Andratx and Sant Elm. With this measure, it is expected that attendees will opt for public transport, especially during the weekend of July 10 to 11, when the street parties and Correfoc take place.

Mayor Gonzalvo reminded that “each year we gather thousands of people, and we want everyone to enjoy comfortably.” The Town Hall recommends checking the schedules and stops on the municipal website or on the social media of the Festivals department to plan movements. The initiative, which debuts this year, could be repeated in future editions if the reception is positive.

For attendees, the shuttle bus will be available from early afternoon until dawn, covering the schedules of the main events. Once the festivities are over, the service will be withdrawn, although the Town Hall does not rule out extending it to other celebrations if demand justifies it.
